Training for the New York certification track

Use this page to understand training hours and how to confirm whether a training counts.

  • Foundational training hours

Foundational training for initial certification currently totals 50 hours. The breakdown commonly described is 30 hours of base recovery coach training, 16 hours of peer ethics, and 4 hours of Medication Supported Recovery. Confirm the current breakdown directly with the credentialing body before enrolling.

  • Ethics and Medication Supported Recovery

Peer ethics hours and Medication Supported Recovery hours are tracked separately and required as part of foundational training. Some training options include them; others are taken alone. Check what a training option covers before counting it toward your total.

  • Initial training is not renewal training

A training option that counts toward initial certification does not automatically count toward renewal. Initial certification and renewal are tracked on separate official lists. Use the right list for the step you are on.

  • How to confirm a training counts

Use the current official training information to check whether a training option appears on the active list for the step you are on. Confirm directly with the credentialing body if the training description does not clearly show which approved hours it covers.

Where the official list lives

The current official training information is published by the credentialing body. Use it as the authoritative source.

Official lists move during transitions. Confirm directly with the credentialing body if a page looks stale.
