New York certification requirements
The basic steps include eligibility, training, experience, supervision, exam, and application.

Eligibility
Be 18 or older, live or work in New York State at least 51% of the time at the point of application and testing, and hold a high school diploma or equivalent. International credentials may require additional review.

Training
Complete the foundational training hours required for initial certification. The current foundational total is 50 hours, covering the performance domains, peer ethics, and Medication Supported Recovery. Confirm the current breakdown directly with the credentialing body.
- 03
Experience hours
Accrue 500 hours of work experience in the peer role. Hours can be paid or unpaid and must be supervised in a peer-role context.
- 04
Supervision
Complete 25 hours of supervision in the peer role. Supervision documentation is part of the application package.
- 05
Exam
Pass the IC&RC Peer Recovery exam. The exam is organized around the IC&RC Peer Recovery performance domains.
- 06
Application
Attest to and adhere to the NYCB Code of Ethical Conduct, then submit a complete application through Certemy with payment. Review can take up to 4 weeks. Application fees are non-refundable and do not guarantee approval.
