Terms you’ll see

Recovery credential language gets confusing fast. Here are the terms that matter.

  • CRPA

    Certified Recovery Peer Advocate

New York's peer recovery credential for trained, certified, non-clinical peer professionals.

Why it matters: This is the main New York credential many aspiring peer recovery coaches are trying to understand.

  • NYCB

    New York Certification Board

The body that sets and manages the credential process. NYCB now operates under InUnity Alliance.

Why it matters: Final requirements, applications, renewal rules, and training information should be confirmed with NYCB.

  • OASAS

NYS Office of Addiction Services and Supports

The state agency connected to addiction services and peer roles in New York.

Why it matters: OASAS publishes public information about peer recovery roles and services in New York.

  • InUnity Alliance

    InUnity Alliance

The organization that now houses NYCB resources during the transition from ASAP and Coalition for Behavioral Health history.

Why it matters: Some official credential information may appear across InUnity and older NYCB or ASAP-linked pages.

  • IUA

    InUnity Alliance (abbreviation)

You may see the abbreviation IUA in source notes and non-affiliation language.

Why it matters: It appears in source and non-affiliation language across credential resources.

  • CARC

    Certified Addiction Recovery Coach

A related recovery-coach credential with a different role fit and requirements.

Why it matters: Some people compare CARC with the New York peer credential before deciding which track fits their goal.

  • Certemy

    Certemy

The application system used for credential application steps.

Why it matters: Applicants may need to submit materials through Certemy as part of the official process.

  • CCAR

    Connecticut Community for Addiction Recovery

A recovery coach training program name that may appear in foundational training references.

Why it matters: Some foundational training language references CCAR or equivalent training.

  • IC&RC

    International Certification & Reciprocity Consortium

The organization connected to exam and job-task materials used in the credential ecosystem.

Why it matters: It may appear in exam or role-domain references on credential pages.
